More rain anyone? As I’m curbing my desire to switch on the heating, I’m amazed how much our dietary intake is dependent on the weather. Sunny skies? Green juice and salads in all varieties feels like the most natural thing to ingest. However, on a rainy, cloudy day with a chill in the air, like today,  a warming stew seems more in keeping. Fennel and Avocado Summer Salad

Finally sun! It may or may not have been the coldest and greyest of springs but whatever the facts may be – it has felt like it to me. Last week I even put the fire on in the sitting room – in June!! The minute the sun is out of course I go totally salad mad – anything can find its way into my salads and often do. My current plant crush is fennel which is not only incredibly tasty but also has a lot of benefits especially for those with gastric issues. Irritable bowl syndrome anyone? Protein salad with tahini and mustard dressing

imageQuinoa is a hard grain to beat generally but especially if you are into vegan/vegetarian food. When you’ve eaten your body weight in brown rice and pasta no longer appeals (all that gluten, darling) quinoa is the logical next step. Versatile (it can be eaten hot or cold), inexpensive, filling and jam packed with nutrients, it should quite frankly take pride of place in everybody’s kitchen.
