You know that feeling when you are heading out and about in the morning without any care for where lunch is going to come from and certainly not prepared enough to bring something good/healthy/nutritious with you in a smart lunch box. And then sitting down with a dry shop bought sandwich only to watch your colleague devour the best part of her/his fridge neatly collated into a lunchbox filled with such yummies as avocado/quinoa/hummus/beetroot/beans/seaweed etc. You get the picture and yep I’ve been there too. More rain anyone? As I’m curbing my desire to switch on the heating, I’m amazed how much our dietary intake is dependent on the weather. Sunny skies? Green juice and salads in all varieties feels like the most natural thing to ingest. However, on a rainy, cloudy day with a chill in the air, like today,  a warming stew seems more in keeping. Boost your hormones

The end of summer always comes tinged with a certain duality. On the one hand it is fab to be back in my old groove, make green juice, see my house with new eyes after being away and meeting up with friends I’ve not seen for a while. On the other hand, however, it is the stark realisation that we’re heading for colder weather, routine, school runs, more rain and cold and so on. I’m not sure I’m there just yet.

As a foodie and a health nut I tend to focus my attention on what’s going on in the fridge in times of uncertainty – there is something very calming about the restocking of supplies which after a long time away are utterly depleted. Summers always means falling off the health wagon one way or the other. Too much of everything.
