Aloha salad

The Hawaiian word Aloha can mean a lot of things  – like hello or goodbye. The literal meaning of Aloha is “the presence of breath” or “the breath of life.” It comes from “Alo,” meaning presence, front and face, and “ha,” meaning breath. Primarily, however, Aloha is a way of living and treating each other with love and respect, a spirit of welcoming, acceptance and generosity. I’ve been coming here for the past 25 years and it is definitely true that the locals exude an air of contentment that the rest of us may be missing.

After a big surf day, tonight’s Aloha salad included juicy locally grown papaya and mango (from Diamond Head), cucumber, romano (plum) tomatoes, a handful of kale and spinach from the local farmers market, grapes, a cup of cooked quinoa and 3-4 crunchy romaine leaves roughly torn, all thrown together nonchalantly with poached organic chicken breast (roughly chopped) and home-made vinaigrette. Created whilst listening to Blackbird by the Beatles. Unbelievably good! Happy Wednesday x
