Everyday turmeric porridge

Voila! This is my everyday go-to porridge, jam packed with everything that is good for you. I do it on autopilot and with all the ingredients at an arms reach it has become easy and almost second nature. Planning is key and with the right set-up anything is possible. I really look forward to it each morning, especially since the weather is getting colder and the mornings darker. I sit in front of the fire and think about the day ahead – it is a little thing but it really starts my day off right. Continue reading “Everyday turmeric porridge”

Start your day the porridge way

There is nothing like the promise of a new day. Each morning when you wake up, you have a choice of what you want your day to be like. We have unlimited creative power to choose what works and what doesn’t. We don’t have to be trapped in unsatisfactory situations, instead we can transform our lives overnight. How liberating! Porridge with pear and pistachio nuts.

The humble pear is in season and what a joy that is. Nothing quite like a nice pear. πŸ™‚ My kids love them and no matter how many I buy, they are always gone the following day. It is the perfect snack and after a bit of swatting I am delighted by all the health benefits that are related to pears. Who knew?Β  Continue reading “Porridge with pear and pistachio nuts.”

Home-made Kimchi

As wereΒ moving towards the end of Summer, we’ve been lucky to have had a mini heat wave here in London. A couple of days ago we spent a glorious afternoon on the veranda of a beautiful houseboat near Hampton Court in Surrey. It was baking hot, boats were passing, kayaks were paddled and all the kids were splashing about in the river. It was pure bliss. Continue reading “Home-made Kimchi”

‘All in one’ Porridge

Efficiency is a zeitgeist. To do more in a shorter amount of time is what everyone is striving for these days. Leaving you free to do…more things efficiently. I am a bit ambivalent about all this efficiency – it sounds stressful to me but aficionados swear it is the opposite. The more efficient you are the less stress and forgetfulness you’ll experience. Perhaps. I am willing to be proved wrong. Continue reading “‘All in one’ Porridge”

Love is what matters

After the atrocities across the UK over the past few weeks, the conscious act of showing love and unity seems more pertinent now than ever. Last night, whilst watching Ariana Grande’s One Love concert in Manchester on TV with my daughter, we witnessed just that. A united front, consisting of 50,000 human beings at the Manchester Arena, fuelled by love and support for their fellow men and women. Continue reading “Love is what matters”

Scandi Grain Free Granola

Over the years I have noticed that the one thing that unites us Scandinavians abroad is our longing for the taste of home. A faint waft of cinnamon buns can turn the most gluten-averse Swede into a ravenous wheat freak. Or salivating upon seeing the perfect, powdery surface of a semla, the delicious cardamom bun we eat for lent, stuffed with whipped cream and marzipan, that in the olden days was served with the (odd) addition of warm milk.
