Voila! This is my everyday go-to porridge, jam packed with everything that is good for you. I do it on autopilot and with all the ingredients at an arms reach it has become easy and almost second nature. Planning is key and with the right set-up anything is possible. I really look forward to it each morning, especially since the weather is getting colder and the mornings darker. I sit in front of the fire and think about the day ahead – it is a little thing but it really starts my day off right.
I know some may look at the recipe below and be less than keen on the savoury flavour which is predominant which is why I’ve added the chopped banana. The soft and sweet flavour rounds it all off nicely and the potassium counteracts the sodium in your body to regulate healthy blood pressure. It’s all good…
A small note! Turmeric is a fat soluable substance which needs fat to be properly absorbed by the body which is why I’ve added the coconut oil. Similarly, the addition of black pepper enhances the absorbtion of curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric, to maximise the benefits in our bodies.
Everyday Turmeric Porridge
1/2 cup GF organic porridge oats
1/2 tbsp organic coconut oil
1 tsp turmeric organic powder (I buy it off the internet as those little spice jars from the supermarkets last me less than a week)
1 tbsp seeds (pumpkin and sunflower)
1 tbsp chia seeds
1 banana, chopped
1 squirt ground black pepper
a small pinch himalayan pink salt
1 tsp ground flax seeds
1 tsp maca powder
1/2 inch chopped fresh ginger
Nut milk for pouring over when cooked
How to:
Cook porridge in water or milk of your choice according to instructions. Add all the ingredients and stir thoroughly. Top with milk of your choice (I prefer nutmilk) and enjoy.
Much love,
