It’s easy to get totally carried anyway during this time of year. Lovely, scrumptious temptations are everywhere we look and it is hard to stay on the straight and narrow with drinks parties, mulled wine, mince pies and Christmas flavoured coffees all around us.
And if you are Swedish, like me, the festive tradition of Lucia has just been and gone (13th December) and with it came ‘lussebullar’, delicious saffron buns, and ‘pepparkakor’, thin ginger snaps, which we had with coffee and/or ‘glogg’, our version of mulled wine. Needless to say its all full of sugar and gluten, not to mention caffeine and alcohol.
Which is why I urge you to keep juicing this christmas even if it seems to be the most unintuitive thing to do. Trust me, your body needs it! Ensure you fuel up on plenty of fresh veg that will prove to be the most effective weapon to resist any residual lurgies and keep your immune system really strong. A top tip is to pre-book your supermarket deliveries so that you are sure to get a fresh supply of veg. You may forget otherwise and left to our own devices we may end up in Cafe Nero instead… Just saying. So here are some top juices to keep you going this christmas:
Top 3 Organic Christmas Juices
Green juice
1 cucumber
2 celery sticks
1/2 bag of kale or spinach
Juice of 1 lemon (if organic and unwaxed you can leave peel on – intensifies the taste)
1 apple (I prefer braeburn or granny smith) or pear
Generous piece of ginger (size of my thumb)
Optional: 1/2 fennel, Handful parsley.
Orange juice
1 orange
1 apple
5 carrots
Generous piece of ginger (size of my thumb or more)
Optional: Turmeric, Red pepper
Red Juice
2 carrots
2 stalks celery
1 orange
1 beetroot
2 generous chunks of red cabbage
Piece of turmeric root or powdered turmeric
Optional: Red pepper, Sweet potato
Juice all ingredients in whatever juicer you happen to have. A cold pressed juicer retain more nutrients but as I always say.. the best juicer is the one you are going to use. So get out your juicer in whatever variety and get cracking. Store juice in glass containers in the fridge and drink as soon as you can. Fresh is always the best way. Share with family and friends and spread the love of health.
Happy Monday.
Much love,
Birgitta x
