Green Swede Protein Smoothie

A filling smoothie is sometimes the best solution for time poor, nutrition yearning busy bodies. I certainly know that when I’m rushed – with eating being something I have to fit in rather than linger over – a smoothie is the go-to solution. The beauty of smoothies is that is all works.

Got some spinach, banana, avocado, blueberries, kale or yoghurt the fridge? A selection of protein powders, spirulina, flax seed or nuts lurking in your cupboards? Just add it to the jug and press blend. I guarantee it will taste lovely. Colourwise it is sometimes challenging if you are mixing greens with strongly coloured fruits such as black berries or blueberries but remember it is only aesthetics. Odds are it will still taste wonderful and with the added benefit that it is really, really good for you too.

At the beginning of the week it is nice to beef things up with a helping of protein so in today’s smoothie I added a heaped tablespoon of hemp protein powder, some spirulina, ground flax seed, walnuts and a selection of fruit and veg. That was lunch sorted! Hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I did.

Green Swede Protein Smoothie

1/2 – 1 avocado

1 banana

Handful of spinach

Handful of cucumber

10 walnuts

1 tbsp hemp protein powder

1 tsp spirulina

1 tbsp ground flax seed

1 tbsp coconut oil

2 cups almond milk (mine was home made but any will do)

Blend all ingredients until smooth. Add more liquid if you need a thinner consistency. Decorate with mint leaf and you are ready for lunch 🙂 X
