I start most days with a green juice. It is a cracking way of ensuring you get your daily dose of green veggies pumped directly into your system, ideally on an empty stomach too so that your body can digest and benefit from all the goodness in peace. Try to avoid eating solids for at least 30 minutes after drinking the juice. There are a lots of different combos you can use for your juices but it is always good to have something watery, like cucumber and celery, as your base which ensures you don’t get blown away by the intensity other green leaf veggies, like kale and spinach, can produce left to their own devices. Using only organic produce if possible, here is one of my typical morning juices:
1/2 to 1 cucumber
3 stalks of celery
3 leaves of romaine lettuce
2 cm piece of ginger
1 handful of kale
1 handful of spinach
1 apple
Put all ingredients in a blender until you have a smooth liquid. If you fancy you can add a teaspoon of spirulina and flax seeds to maximise the amount of nutrients. I often dilute my juice with 1/3 of coconut or plain filtered water if juice is too intense. This amount gives me at least 2 big glasses of green juice that I drink with a straw – quite an acid attack on your teeth otherwise. During winter I increase the amount of ginger to avoid colds and flu and sometimes add some squeezed lemon juice into the mixture as well. Enjoy x
